New Tuk-Tuk Designs Aims to Reinvent City Traffic
The tuk-tuk, or the auto rickshaw as it’s known by much of the world, is a common public transportation vehicle seen across several developing nations. Now, a modified, electric version hopes to reimagine public transportation in Europe and the United States–though riders show reluctance due to its less than ideal look.
However, a modified design by RMIT University student Kyle Armstrong called may just overcome that perception issue. The Melbourne, Australia-based student was inspired to create what he dubbed “the Lindo” while using the public transportation system of his burgeoning city. He hopes the Lindo can redesign the city, and beyond’s, transportation issues to meet modern demands.
The Lindo works much like a cab service where users can order and pay for the service using their smart phones. Armstrong says the Lindo’s design focuses on a light, yet strong and durable titanium space frame for sleek safety.
